When the tones in Madison go off between the hours of 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM, a crew from the Madison County Rescue Squad is on the way to the truck and soon to be on the way to the scene of the call. When units arrive on scene, squad members will locate the patient and begin either Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency procedures. Once both EMT's and ALS members have decided that the patient has been stabilized, the crew will move the patient to the truck and begin heading to one of MCRS's designated hospitals, either Culpeper Regional Hospital (CRH) in Culpeper, VA, Martha Jefferson Hospital (MJH) in Charlottesville, VA or to the University of Virginia Medical Center (UVA) in Charlottesville as well. After arriving at a hospital, the crew will transfer all care to the doctors and nurses at the hospital and the crew will return to the station. In the event of extremely life threatening emergencies, a MEDEVAC helicopter may be requested to respond to the closest available landing zone. Pegasus helicopter from UVA or AirCare 5 from the Shenandoah Valley are MCRS's closest designated MEDEVAC helicopters.
