Help us save lives!

Please read about the multitude of ways you can help the Squad and its volunteers. It doesn’t always have to be about money, even though that is a large part of what we need. Keep reading to see what you or your organization can do!

Since 1963, the volunteer members of the Madison County Rescue Squad have been providing emergency medical services to the County of Madison. We are proud to say that we are in our 48th year of uninterrupted service to our local community and we are totally staffed by dedicated volunteers. We are a non-profit agency and your donations allow us to provide you with the services you require, in your time of need. Whenever you see one of the Rescue Squad's trucks, you're watching volunteers at work. We are a driven and dedicated organization as our members strive to treat every patient as we would want our own families and loved ones treated in a health emergency.

All squad members donate their time free of charge, often spending many additional hours of personal time in advanced training. When they're not performing rescues or learning new techniques, squad members maintain equipment and sharpen their existing skills. The Squad is also involved in other services that benefit our community besides emergency response. We participate and provide standby emergency medical services at many of the local events, high school sporting events, the Madison County Fair, and other large scale events that are held in Madison County.

Our members are neighbors, helping neighbors, and we receive no compensation for our service, only pride in knowing that we are providing a vital service to our community. These volunteers respond to emergency calls no matter whether it is a holiday or a snow day!

Monetary:

While we have no labor costs at the squad (100% volunteer agency) we do have expenses. These expenses include training, fuel, utilities, maintenance, insurance, rescue equipment purchases and replacement uniforms, etc. In order to pay for these we rely on donations from the public.

  • Cash or check- A gift of cash (or a check) is still the most popular way to make a charitable gift. Your gift will quickly go to work for the Squad, fulfilling the day-to-day need for medical supplies, training, uniforms, and other necessities. In addition, we will honor requests for specific uses of gifts, such as for uniforms or training, provided your request is consistent with our lifesaving mission.

  • Wills, Trusts, and Retirement and other Financial Accounts - Many residents name the Madison County Rescue Squad as a beneficiary of their will, living trust, IRA, retirement account, or other financial account, or by having loved ones contribute in lieu of flowers.

  • Year End Gifts – Many residents choose to remember the Rescue Squad at year's end, in order to take advantage of tax savings.*
(Needless to say, your gift is very much appreciated at any time of the year!)

  • Securities - Gifts of appreciated securities or stock can be one of the most advantageous ways of giving. If your gift of stock is one you have owned for more than one year, you may be able to deduct the full fair market value of the stock as a charitable contribution, while bypassing capital gains taxes.*
  • Gifts of appreciated securities, mutual funds, or stock can be one of the most advantageous ways of giving - If your gift of securities or stock is one you have owned for more than one year, you may be able to deduct the full fair market value as a charitable contribution, while avoiding capital gains taxes. If you were to sell your stocks or other securities yourself, you would generate a tax liability in the form of a capital gain. By donating the security directly to the Rescue Squad, you can avoid that tax liability. The Rescue Squad, in turn, receives the benefit of the appreciated value of the security.*

  • Real Estate - Gifts of appreciated real estate are like gifts of appreciated stock. Assuming you have owned the property for more than one year, you may be able to deduct as a charitable contribution the fair market value of real estate while avoiding capital gains taxes.*
The Rescue Squad performs a due diligence examination of real estate before accepting such gifts.

  • Insurance - Life insurance is a unique way to give to charity. To qualify, the charity needs to become the owner and the beneficiary. No incidents of ownership should be retained. If the policy is paid up, your charitable contribution is generally the replacement value or cost basis of the policy, whichever is less. Ongoing premiums paid on a gifted life insurance policy may also qualify for charitable deductions.*
