Madison County Rescue Squad, Inc is a volunteer agency, established in 1963 that provides emergency care to the citizens of Madison County, Virginia. We are also known as MCRS or "The Squad" and are currently in our 49th year of providing emergency care to the citizens and visitors of Madison County.
MCRS can be activated by calling 9-1-1 in the County of Madison.
MCRS volunteers provide Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support to the entire County of Madison. The volunteers of MCRS mission, passion, commitment and purpose for volunteering with the Squad is to be able to provide superior pre-hospital emergency basic and advanced life support and ambulance transport to the residents and visitors of our community, if you should ever need it, at no charge.
MCRS is an entirely volunteer organization made up of citizens from the local Madison County community. Our members are made up of systems engineer, small business owners, bankers, college students, lawyers, university professors, career emergency services personnel and everyday citizens.
MCRS covers the entire county of Madison, which is a grand total of 327 square miles of land mass, about one sixth of which falls in the Shenandoah National Park.
Our population is 13308 per Census 2010.
In the event of extremely life threatening emergencies, a MEDEVAC helicopter may be requested to respond to the closest available landing zone. Pegasus helicopter from UVA or AirCare 5 from the Shenandoah Valley are MCRS's closest designated MEDEVAC helicopters.
